FourByThree collaborative robot almost ready

After the three initial prototypes, the first FourByThree robotic arm that will be used in the development of one of the four industrial cases is ready for deployment. In the coming weeks, the additional three will be available too. The arm has been mounted in ZEMA and it is now at DFKI for final tuning. The robot will then be sent to Eibar where there will be an Integration Camp …Read More

Rise of the cobot (market analysis and forecast)

Source: Plastics Today By 2025, the market for collaborative robotics is expected to reach $12 billion The automation sector had another exceptional year; it’s best ever, in fact. In 2016, the North American robotics market broke all time records for orders and shipments, according to statistics from the Robotic Industries Association (RIA; Ann Arbor, MI). A little more than 34,600 robots valued at approximately $1.9 billion were ordered in North …Read More

The consumerization of robots and its implications

Source: Robotic Industries Association Imagine a world without cars, airplanes, phones, TVs, and computers. Without many of the goods we enjoy every day. Goods we find so readily at our corner store, or at our fingertips. Poof, it’s all gone. That’s a world without Industrial Revolution. An invention is just an idea if nobody buys it. Consumerization fueled the First (steam power), Second (electrification and mass production), and Third (computing) …Read More

The manufacturability problems of service robot designs

Service robots are having enormous variability with their tasks. One thing is common with all of them: they are present in the vicinity and interact with humans. This presence and co-operation capability dictates the design of the robot arm, which is very different compared to the industrial robot designs. The robot arm should be very light-weight so that inertia while moving will be minimized and the possible impact in case …Read More
